HELP SELF PUBLISHING
Help self publishing! Where do you start, and why should
you want to self publish anyway? Well, you may have to self publish, as
poetry publishers are not thick on the ground. And if you enjoyed writing
the poems, then it's a fair bet that others will enjoy reading them. But
you won't know that if they remain in the drawer, to be taken out occasionally
at Christmas or in the company of close friends. Give them a chance: try
them out on a wider audience in ezines
and bulletin boards.
Though we call this page 'help self publishing', you will
see that we're simply pointing you in the right direction of help. Self
publishing is an time-honoured route in poetry and more innovative novel-writing,
but each need will be different. You'll have to start by researching the
small presses carefully, and submitting to magazines
that publish what you actually enjoy reading.
But there's more involved than well-deserved approbation. Literature is
a community, one where you can make friends and learn to craft your work
more appealingly. If bulletin boards and local writing circles can't help,
then consider a workshop, listed as follows:
Poetry
Society of America. Poetry conferences, colonies and festivals: also
publishers, MFA programs and journals.
